Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance
Elon Musk, a well-known entrepreneur, is the brains behind SolarCity, Tesla, SpaceX, and PayPal. With each of these businesses, Musk has one goal in mind: to save humanity.
Elon has always been innovative. Musk, the real-life Iron Man, aims to save humanity by taking humans into space and establishing a colony on Mars.
This book is great because of Ashlee Vance’s masterful description of Musk’s personality, simple style, and smart choice of words.
Elon Musk’s Mission is to Save Humanity
Musk’s intentions are not related to money. One could label the majority of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs as being money-obsessed. However, as described by Ashlee Vance, Musk is having universal empathy. He is more concerned with humanity than he is about money.
Due to these traits, Elon has been able to build two separate, billion-dollar enterprises in the field of environmentally friendly technology: Tesla Motors, and SolarCity. Elon probably would have failed in the extremely competitive field of sustainability without his internal motivation. Read more…
Elon Musk Had a Tough Childhood
Elon’s challenging childhood influenced the person he is today. Elon’s connections with his family and friends were tough while he was growing up in South Africa.
Elon made the decision to move from South Africa to Canada, where he battled to make a living but eventually found a real homeland. He gained his confidence while at Queen’s University, and he also met Justine Wilson, who eventually became his first wife and the mother of his sons. He attended Queen’s for two years, then transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, and started throwing house parties to make money. He made enough money from his successful parties to pay his rent.
Elon and The PayPal
He founded the Global Link Information Network with his brother. Later, this company would be known as Zip2. The USP of this company was that it helped businesses that were having trouble setting up and using the internet. Although this idea would eventually make Elon and his brother millions of dollars, they were not immediately successful.
Elon created X.com, one of the earliest online banks, and used its cutting-edge strategy to boost public confidence in online banking. The firm name was changed from X.com to PayPal when X.com and company Confinity merged. After that, eBay purchased PayPal.

Tesla Set the Benchmark for the Electric Cars
Martin Eberhard, Marc Tarpenning, and J.B. Straubel founded Tesla Motors in 2003. Elon Musk made a $6.5 million investment, becoming the only shareholder and chairman, and claimed that Tesla Motors will revolutionize electric cars and change the world.
The most popular Tesla model is the Model S, which features continuous internet access and a sensor that allows the driver to start the engine without touching a button. Since Chrysler, Tesla has become the most profitable car company in the United States. Once more, Elon’s determination made Tesla Motors succeed.
Each of Musk’s Companies Aims to Save Humankind
Tesla, SpaceX, and SolarCity are the three businesses that Elon currently runs. Each of these companies works towards the shared objective of helping in the survival of the human species. SolarCity is his most recent endeavor.
SolarCity was created by Elon Musk and his brothers in order to benefit from solar energy. They developed a business plan and Elon became the chairman and largest shareholder. By the time Ashlee Vance was writing this book, SolarCity had evolved to be the biggest US solar panel installer and had a $7 billion market valuation. As a result of Elon’s creation of a group of companies that support each other, they now have contracts with some of the largest US companies.
Elon Musk Has Many More Promising Concepts
In his brief career as an entrepreneur, Elon has already accomplished a great deal. But he has even more ambitious ideas for the future. Elon Musk is an innovator who has a history of thinking outside the realm of possibility. He has been able to change the competitive landscape in every business he has reached.
Lesson #1: Determine the questions that you should ask yourself
The proper questions will ultimately lead to the right answers if we keep asking them. Unfortunately, we don’t often talk to ourselves about what we actually desire from life. The solution is rather simple once you have the answer to the initial question.
Here, Elon Musk is not referring to finding a decent, steady career; rather, he is pointing to discovering something more significant. Striving and pursuing a goal that will ultimately enhance humanity. Something enduring and significant.
Lesson #2: The Opportunities Are Your Own Creations
Musk has always been an opportunist and a visionary. At an early age, he began planning his future.
Only you have the power to shape the future you want for yourself and others around you. Finding and embracing opportunities is what this implies. Don’t wait for instructions from your boss, parents, spouse, or a random online influencer. You should be the one to discover these things on your own.
